There’s no doubt that America has an obesity problem. 200 million of us are overweight or obese, and therefore at a higher risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, joint problems, and sleep apnea. Many people try to lose weight on their own, but sadly, 85% of people who go on a diet gain the weight back within 2 years.

11 years ago I too was obese, weighing 233 pounds, with a BMI of 32—and that was after trying every fad diet that came out and training five days a week with a triathlon coach. Obesity is insidious: the more I felt trapped by my weight, the more my mental health, self-confidence, happiness and even earning potential suffered.

On a friend’s recommendation, I attended a seminar by Dr. Wayne Andersen, and it literally changed my life. He explained the concept of having a Health Coach—someone who works with you to change habits of disease into habits of health. He shifted my thinking from losing weight to creating health, and focusing on my “why” which was primarily driven by my passion for surfing.

At that time I was the co-founder of the Happy Healthy Wealthy Game which had helped over 2,000 people from all walks of life. When Dr. Andersen shared his Trilogy of Optimal Health: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Finances, I immediately decided to join forces.

In a few months, I was down 50 pounds and had totally changed my relationship with food. More importantly, I’d changed my habits. Over a decade later, not only am I still at a healthy weight, I’ve been able to help thousands of people achieve these same goals. All the information in the world doesn’t make the pounds come off. However, changing habits leads to lasting success.
